Life is complicated enough, so why should our memes act the same way? 

There is plenty of memetic humor these days that suffers under the weight of multiple decades of internet culture, and it can be impossible to understand for the average scroller. There is a time and a place for such follies, but the simple punchlines never get confusing and are a lot more popular. Perhaps it can come with a side of weird, but it has to be tempered by the hook.

Of course, there are still memes out there that appreciate the more basic side of humor. They still make up the vast majority, in fact. The thing is that they sometimes get lost in the overwhelming sea of content that can be found out there. The best we can do is take it one meme at a time and pick out the stuff that we like the most among all the randomness that we find. Some variety is important, and it is that which encourages us to keep coming back to the endless fountain of internet humor. It is comforting, even when it is not exactly our favorite type of content.
